Artificial intelligence is changing the concept of security in Latin America.

The electronic security market generated approximately R$$ 6 billion in revenue in Brazil in 2017.

The sector's growth goes hand in hand with the adoption of new technologies. Artificial intelligence, for example, enables functionalities such as license plate reading, identification of dangerous situations, real-time data cross-referencing, facial recognition, and recognition of physical characteristics.
The use of intelligent systems is the main focus of the security market in Latin America. At Expo Seguridad, held in Mexico in April, the main innovations presented point in this direction. Highlights at the fair included solutions that allow for the automated counting of people through security systems and facial analysis, which can differentiate faces and identify them among many others.
At Exposec, which took place in São Paulo in May, data cross-referencing and machine-based situation identification were highlighted among other solutions. This type of automation contributes to building increasingly smarter cities, for example, through the instant identification of dangerous situations, which optimizes the work of public and private security agents.
Instead of people monitoring numerous images captured by cameras distributed throughout the city, intelligent systems issue alerts when something unusual happens, suspects are identified, or when stolen cars are recorded by security equipment. Therefore, in addition to offering greater efficiency, the technology helps save money.
The common thread between the two trade shows, reflecting the most modern developments in the sector in Latin America, is that real-time data analysis is the key to reducing crime rates in cities. In an environment where everything is instantaneous, identification technologies—whether for people or vehicles—need to keep pace with the accelerated rhythm of transportation and communication. This allows for smarter route planning, resource savings, and the identification of suspects, reducing the time they have to escape.
In addition, companies are investing in the interaction between technologies, increasing security possibilities. Machine learning, cross-referencing information (big data), and artificial intelligence are just some of the resources that can be used together to improve security solutions.
At Camerite, for example, which develops cloud-based security image monitoring software, in addition to the cloud, big data, cryptography, and artificial intelligence are used. The combination allows for more instantaneous, accurate, and personalized results.
Little by little, in markets and on the streets, technologies are transforming the security sector, helping it transcend its function of protecting people and property, and instead collaborating with government economies, streamlining processes, and making cities increasingly smarter and safer.
