IP intercom with integrated camera or external camera? Which one to choose?

Anyone who has ever attended a condominium meeting knows that, most of the time, security and cost-cutting are priority topics. After all, how do you balance the difficult equation of increasing access controls without exceeding budgets? Amidst this global market demand/trend, the line of IP Doorbells It became a very interesting solution.

Khomp's Blog analyzed two very common situations: investing in an IP intercom with an integrated camera or continuing with only external cameras? What to do?

Security at a glance: what is an IP intercom?

IP Wall, IP doorman, digital doorman, electronic doorman. The names may vary depending on the region, but basically they all arose from the need to automate processes related to access authorization, without needing keys or the help of a human doorman. It is an intercom with embedded intelligence and various possible applications. From simply granting access by approaching the tag and connecting the gatehouse to the resident's apartment to the more complex scenario: connecting the gatehouse to the apartment and, if the resident does not answer, connecting it directly to the registered cell phone.

See to protect: the advantages of IP doorbells with cameras

The main advantage of an IP intercom with a camera is the detailed recognition and recording of the person requesting access. It offers uninterrupted monitoring, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which you can connect to your existing surveillance camera system via the RTSP protocol.

In the short term, the main benefit is cost reduction, as investing in an IP Wall with a video interface is more economically viable compared to investing in a traditional intercom system plus extra cameras. Furthermore, there is no need for a dedicated full-time operator for the system.

In the medium and long term, other benefits become even clearer: the perception of a highly monitored environment deters offenders, just as greater control over internal processes helps with maintenance.

Intercom with external camera vs. IP intercom with integrated camera. Which one to choose?

For Andrey Gonçalves, Khomp product developer  “"The best choice is to combine the IP intercom with an integrated camera with the existing external cameras in the space. This mix creates a stronger and smarter system, as it uses different features that complement each other very well.".

Outdoor cameras offer a wider field of view, covering streets in front, hallways, and other areas where they are positioned. IP intercoms with cameras, on the other hand, focus on the individual and their surroundings.
