New HDD delivers the highest storage capacity for 24/7 video surveillance security systems.
Seagate Technology plc, a world leader in storage solutions, unveils the seventh generation of its hard disk drives (HDDs) specifically designed for video monitoring and analytics applications: the Seagate® Surveillance HDD. The Surveillance HDD is a hard drive created to store and access video data, improving data integrity and keeping systems running longer.
“There is a growing need to analyze and utilize large amounts of video data, including applications that allow cities to predict and improve traffic flows, airports to reduce wait times, and emergency teams to react more quickly; the possibilities are endless,” said Scott Horn, vice president of marketing at Seagate. “We pioneered this market more than a decade ago, delivering the world’s first surveillance HDD, and we can leverage our vast knowledge of this technology and the market to offer our customers the ideal solution for recording and accessing surveillance data.”
The 9cm drive is available with capacities up to 8TB and can store up to 960 hours of high-definition (HD) content, making it the industry's highest-capacity drive specifically designed for surveillance applications. Designed to increase video storage, the drive has built-in rotational vibration (RV) sensors, allowing it to reliably run in systems with up to 16 drives, making it ideal for small and medium-sized businesses.
“The Surveillance HDD, with its high-capacity drive and robust features, will provide our customers with the critical reliability we have come to expect from Seagate, as well as expanded storage and the ability to retain data for even longer periods,” said Jeff Range, vice president of global operations at March Networks.
Designed to support security recordings from many cameras regardless of resolution requirements, the release supports up to 32 cameras per system and easily handles high recording duty cycles. It provides the flexibility needed to scale a surveillance solution, enduring more data for longer periods and meeting industry file and resolution requirements. These features, combined with integrated R/V sensors, improve drive performance in multi-drive and RAID systems and increase the value of surveillance data by delivering the highest possible data integrity.
The new release offers more options for transmitting and consolidating video images into a single solution, allowing for improved system size and capacity without compromising reliability.
The system allows for customized power settings and provides better support for cameras with motion sensors, ensuring the system never misses an image. The drives slow down to conserve power when there is no movement and quickly activate when motion is detected by the sensor.
The Surveillance HDD boasts a one million MTBF (mean time between failures), allowing the product to remain operational for longer while reducing deployment costs. The unit is also designed for low power consumption and low heat emissions, giving solution providers greater design flexibility.
