The LGPD (General Data Protection Law) is set to come into effect on December 31, 2020, following the approval of Provisional Measure (MP) 959/2020 in the Chamber of Deputies, held this Tuesday (25). The final text will have one day to be voted on in the Senate.
Article 4 of the Provisional Measure postponed the law until May of next year—the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) was scheduled to come into effect on August 14th. After an amendment by Congressman Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) to the original text, congressmen confirmed the extension, but for almost four months and not nine, as the Provisional Measure had stipulated.
