Companies collaborate to create a pioneering laboratory dedicated to developing technologies for passenger transportation. Bus fleets in the city of São Paulo will be the first to benefit from the results.
São Paulo, June 2023 – With the goal of leading the technological transformation in the Brazilian transportation sector, the Maxtrack, Qualcomm, a leader in high-value-added tracking technology in Latin America, and Qualcomm Serviços de Telecomunicações Ltda. (Qualcomm Brasil), a leader in wireless technology innovation, announce a collaboration to revolutionize passenger transport monitoring, both urban and intercity/charter, while providing a better experience for users of the public transportation system.
The project envisions the creation of a pioneering laboratory dedicated to the development of transportation technologies. It aims to develop a platform that will be the new benchmark in image processing capabilities using artificial intelligence for public transportation systems in Brazil. This is especially relevant for activities such as automatic passenger counting, monitoring safety during boarding and disembarking, permanent identification of user origin and destination, support for safe and efficient driving by drivers, monitoring the condition of public roads, and providing a high-quality Wi-Fi experience for users. This new integrated services platform will enable new ticketing methods, greater safety for drivers and passengers, and new services for the general public.
The new design, based on the new Qualcomm® QCM/QCS6490 System-on-Chip (SoC), will provide a modernization experience with 5G connectivity and cybersecurity in vehicles, by making WiFi 6 available to urban and long-distance transport users. Initially, the solution will be aimed at the bus fleet of the municipality of São Paulo, which already has more than 6,000 Maxtrack devices installed, with an estimated expansion to fleets in other regions of Latin America starting in 2024.
The project opens a new avenue in fleet management and service quality by establishing a new technological standard. It's Artificial Intelligence and 5G at the service of our population.

In addition to new technologies, cybersecurity and user data protection will also be addressed with the new platform, in contrast to other applications on the market that transmit image data through unknown servers, without any guarantee of compliance with the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) and other best practices in public security.

To create the laboratory, which will operate in Brazil, and develop the new platform, the companies will invest R$$25 million by the end of 2024. The integration of the technology into the fleets will be carried out gradually, with completion scheduled for 2025.
