How does technology impact life in Brazilian municipalities? Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Machine Learning, and other resources can already be integrated into street traffic lights, police vehicles, and video surveillance cameras to make real-time decisions, identify and prevent incidents. This is what the Brazilian Association of Electronic Systems Companies (Abese) will present in practice during Exposec 2023, the largest technology showcase in Latin America, which will take place in S\u00e3o Paulo between June 13th and 15th with free admission.<\/p>\n
The Abese Connect Arena will be the meeting point for solutions based on the "Safe City" concept, which uses disruptive technologies and concepts to protect citizens. In partnership with the National Innovation Program Terra2 Inova (PNIT2I), the S\u00e3o Paulo Military Police, SegdBoa, InovaUSP, Avantia, Microsoft, Axon, and Sonda, the space will showcase technologies already employed in smart cities, such as the success story of Ibi\u00fana with the Municipal Guard, the case of Mexico City, the body cameras used by the S\u00e3o Paulo Military Police, among others. Technologies currently used in smart cities, such as cameras for patrol cars that can identify armed individuals, intelligent traffic lights, solutions for schools, and poles and totems with image analytics, will be presented in practice.<\/p>\n
In the area of public transportation, a solution will be presented that enables the detection of pedestrian and animal crossings on the road, lane change alerts without proper signaling, approaching vehicles in blind spots, an onboard panic button for reporting security problems (harassment, assaults, users in danger), anti-collision systems (vehicle ahead), driver behavioral detection, including: cell phone use while driving, forgetting to use a seatbelt, detection of driver drowsiness and fatigue, detection of attention and smoking while driving) and integration of information to the user (convoy, time to arrival at the stop).<\/p>\n
Smart Security\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n In partnership with the Innovation Center of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 InovaUSP, the Arena will host the latest solutions developed in the university's laboratory with the support of other entities in the innovation ecosystem. These solutions, already implemented in vehicles and connected to the COPOM (Integrated Operations Center) of S\u00e3o Paulo, send alerts in 3 seconds. These are Brazilian open-source hardware and software technologies for intelligent video analysis with edge artificial intelligence, which can contribute to the evolution of predictive risk analysis systems for citizens, whether environmental or due to human action.<\/p>\n \u201cTechnology is capable of understanding behavioral patterns, and that's why we can use it to prevent tragedies, not just for subsequent investigations. For example, imagine a pet or a baby in a parked car; the video camera itself can identify it, realize that there is a risk due to the time that has passed, alert the authorities, and monitor the situation before the worst happens. The good news is that this resource is already available and can identify stolen cars, people with suspicious behavior or illness, among other things,\u201d explains the president of Abese, Selma Migliori.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter a year since the signing of the partnership agreement between InovaUSP and ABESE, carried out at last year's Exposec edition, the initiatives already developed will be demonstrated, and now we are moving on to a new stage, which is the transfer of technologies to the rest of the country to reduce the cost of the solutions,\u201d says Robson Arantes, coordinator of the Innovation and IoT Committee at ABESE.<\/p>\n During the event, in the setting designed to demonstrate the solutions, there will be intelligent traffic lights that detect when a citizen approaches, identify the flow of cars, and organize the timing for pedestrians to cross the street to benefit people without causing congestion. In addition, a patrol car equipped with cameras and police officers with artificial intelligence at the edge will demonstrate how to identify suspects with bladed weapons, firearms, and license plates.<\/p>\n Cases in cities\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n To promote a safer and more secure urban environment, the exhibition at the ABESE Safe City arena will provide an in-depth look at innovative technologies that can be implemented in cities. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the advantages and benefits of bodycams, which are portable devices attached to police uniforms that ensure real-time image capture, enhancing the safety of security teams and public agents.<\/p>\n Furthermore, the exhibition at the Safe City arena in ABESE will showcase security solutions for public transport buses, highlighting effective technological measures to protect passengers and prevent incidents. Finally, a case study from the Ibi\u00fana metropolitan police will be presented, featuring security camera systems in public areas that assist in identifying suspects, reducing crime, and monitoring strategic locations.<\/p>\n School safety<\/strong><\/p>\n The concept of\u00a0Safe City\u00a0<\/em>It applies to all the equipment and spaces that make up the city, such as schools, hospitals, parks, etc. However, with recent events in educational centers, the safety of students and teachers has shown that it needs to be considered more robustly. Therefore, the Abese Connect Arena will host a space with different technologies provided by Avantia that are safe and suitable for daycare centers, schools, and universities.<\/p>\n Good Practices Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n During the event, ABESE will launch a Guide to best practices in technologies for city security, which aims to provide practical guidance for the planning and implementation of technological projects and solutions that promote a safer urban environment.<\/p>\n \u201cThis publication will be the starting point for the creation of laws and regulations for the use of smart solutions in Brazilian educational institutions and in the states, especially in S\u00e3o Paulo, where we are part of the Parliamentary Front for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation and its Integration with the Labor Market of the ALESP (Legislative Assembly of the State of S\u00e3o Paulo), representing Abese.
