The City of Sorocaba, through the technical teams of the Special Operations and Intelligence Division of the Urban Security Secretariat (Sesu) and the Information Technology (IT) Coordination of the Administration Secretariat (Sead), was present at the International Security and Technology Fair (Exposec) in S\u00e3o Paulo, this Wednesday (14).<\/p>\n
The objective was to seek knowledge and visit companies in the information technology sector focused on public safety, updating technical knowledge on the latest innovations in this area. This initiative is part of the projects developed by the Sorocaba City Hall, which has invested primarily in expanding the urban video surveillance network and other technological tools aimed at public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe use of advanced technologies greatly contributes to the integration of actions by security agencies, among other benefits, such as greater speed and accuracy in responding to incidents. Sorocaba has been seeking the best and most modern in public security, which has already proven successful in other cities,\u201d highlighted the Secretary of Public Security, Alexandre Caixeiro.<\/p>\n
According to the head of the Special Operations and Intelligence Division of Sesu, Jorge Luis Junior, the fair, in particular, allowed the team to learn about the latest releases from the national and international security industry, as the event is the main one in this sector in Brazil. "We were able to see firsthand the solutions available on the market and participate in lectures and panel discussions on the subject, enriching the work carried out by the Sorocaba City Hall," he stated.<\/p>\n
The Sorocaba team deepened their knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies, such as facial recognition and intelligent searches for vehicle license plate characteristics. This year, the fair brought in new electronic security companies, increasing market supply and lowering project costs.<\/p>\n
According to Abel Santos J\u00fanior, General IT Coordinator for the City Hall, the fair also provided an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge technologies, including IT infrastructure equipment, which makes it possible to deliver high-tech, high-quality services at lower costs. "Staying updated and aligned with the latest information technologies is a constant, and this fair facilitates that, with systems that will soon be tendered and implemented in Sorocaba," he added.<\/p>\n
Video surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n One of the areas of focus for Sesu is the ongoing implementation of the Integrated and Intelligent Operations Center (COII), equipped with modern security and urban mobility equipment, further expanding the existing video surveillance system, which will operate throughout the city. In fact, four state-of-the-art cameras have recently been installed in the Brigadeiro Tobias region. Currently, Sesu is in the process of expanding the system with approximately 110 more cameras to also monitor municipal properties.<\/p>\n Sorocaba, in fact, already has a camera infrastructure based on the concept of an "electronic wall," especially for monitoring the main entrances and exits of the city. This project is being adapted according to the guidelines of the Smart Cities concept. The equipment in use has high-definition images, allowing for the identification of vehicle license plates, for example. The modernization of the already implemented system will also enable facial and object recognition, among other strategic applications.<\/p>\n Currently, the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Services (Sesu) maintains the Special Operations and Intelligence Center (COEI) at its headquarters in the northern part of the city, where approximately 25 municipal civil guards (GCMs) operate. In this location, a total of 123 cameras are monitored at strategic points in the city, with the system operating in conjunction with the Operations Control Center (CCO) of the Secretariat of Mobility (Semob) in Alto da Boa Vista. There is also a BRT monitoring system with more than 800 devices in operation, and both Semob and Sesu have access to the images generated by this equipment.<\/p>\n Contact with Sesu is by phone at 153 and with Semob at 118. In 2022, there were 40 recorded incidents by Sesu in which the video monitoring system was crucial, and there have already been 17 in 2023 so far. These incidents mainly involve locating and seizing vehicles, thefts, graffiti, among others.<\/p>\n \u201c"Surveillance cameras allow access to real-time images, which contributes to increased security. Emergency responses are made and vehicles are immediately dispatched, in addition to directing actions and operations of other sectors of the Municipal Administration," pointed out the Secretary of Sesu.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Other technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n There is also the new video surveillance totem installed in the city center. The Sorocaba Technological Park (PTS) manages this tool, which is operating in a testing phase, in partnership with Sesu. The equipment is being evaluated to determine if the proposed technology meets the needs of the Municipality. The equipment is installed in a high-traffic area precisely for these evaluations.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are other solutions being evaluated, in partnership with PTS, including the expansion and continuous advancement of the electronic security perimeter system and the technological overhaul of the Integrated Operations Center of the Municipal Civil Guard,\u201d said the Secretary of Urban Security.<\/p>\n Furthermore, Sesu operates through agreements with the Federal and State governments, with access to integrated operations and monitoring platforms, through the Cortex and Detecta systems, respectively, facilitating the process of producing research and compiling results of security actions, contributing to the development of strategies and alignment of security actions.<\/p>\n Technological innovation also permeates the daily and special operations of Sesu, in response to demands from Civil Defense and the Environmental Patrol.
