Companies have only six months to adapt to the new General Data Protection Law (LGPD). Enacted in August 2018, the legislation comes into effect in August of this year, and brings a series of requirements that promote changes in practically all sectors. For this reason, the topic will be a focus of attention during the ESS Security in Hospitality Congress, which will be held simultaneously with the 23rd Exposec \u2013 International Security Fair, taking place from April 14th to 16th at S\u00e3o Paulo Expo.<\/p>\n

According to experts, technological advancements have brought increased concern about privacy and the purpose of information obtained by companies. With the emergence of social networks and a society integrated with the internet and its utilities, legislation capable of regulating data handling has become essential. This will imply a new business vision for dealing with this information.<\/p>\n

Any service or product that collects and transfers data must comply with the principles of the new law. Therefore, individuals now have the right to access their information held by a company, having to authorize its use, and can request deletion, portability, and even restrict its application.<\/p>\n

Given this reality, companies will have to take certain precautions. When collecting customer data, for example, they will have to include authorization to use it for a specific purpose. The best way to avoid future problems is for the organization to consult a lawyer if it does not have a legal department. There is great complexity involved, and seeking professional advice is the right course of action.<\/p>\n

The company involves all employees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Created to \u201csimplify the payments market,\u201d Juno, one of the exhibitors at Exposec 2020, has been preparing for months to comply with the new General Data Protection Law (LGPD). According to Adriano Henrique Pereira, the company's information security coordinator, the first step was to consult with the legal department. \u201cWe took care to study the legislation and verify what applies to us,\u201d he explains. \u201cThen we involved all sectors of the company in the discussion about the LGPD and the issue of protecting our clients' data.\u201d.<\/p>\n

The process is still underway, but Pereira states that Juno has already made significant progress and believes they will be ready when the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) comes into effect. "Currently, we have one person from each sector involved in complying with the new legislation who, in addition to monitoring, also disseminates information on how the company should act in this new reality," explains Pereira.<\/p>\n
