The Secretary of Urban Security of São Paulo speaks about the relevance of Exposec and its actions in society.
Elza Paulina de Souza, the first woman to assume the position of Secretary of Urban Security for the city of São Paulo, participated in the opening ceremony of Exposec. In an exclusive interview, the secretary listed the long series of activities related to public security in the municipality and the work of the GCM (Municipal Civil Guard). Souza also spoke about how the fair is a relevant event for society.
“This fair is essential for us. Because when you share information, when you exchange experiences, and do all this while adding technology, it forms a perfect triad for what we seek, which is to provide an excellent service to society.”
The secretary revealed that the Environmental Guard, which is part of the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), was at the forefront of technology use, being the first in Brazil – and second in the world – to use drone technology for rescue operations in reservoir areas. Currently, this resource continues to be applied in various situations, such as monitoring water source areas, high-risk occupations, and events with large crowds.
In addition to the intensive use of technology, the secretary revealed firsthand that On July 8th, a historic graduation ceremony will be held for the Urban Security Training Academy of the GCM-SP (São Paulo Municipal Guard). “For the first time, we will deliver a total of 960 men to the city of São Paulo,” says Souza, adding that another 500 will graduate by the end of the year. “Of those graduating in July, 400 will be allocated to reinforce security in the city center.”
According to the secretary, it is important to clarify that the role of the Municipal Guard is to act as a preventive force, because it is a judicial police force, just as it is relevant to publicize its multiple areas of operation. As an example, she cites the Special Operations Inspectorate (IOPE), which provides support to the ordinary guard in various situations.
The GCM's canine unit is another area highlighted by Souza, with dogs trained to locate corpses, as well as dogs trained for social actions, such as the therapy dog, which among its activities includes supporting patients in hospitals. The civil guard also carries out educational activities with children, such as the EDUCAM environmental education program, linked to the Environmental Defense Inspectorate, which promotes environmental conservation.
Important work is being done in schools by the Drug Education and Prevention Group (GEPAD), which works with early childhood education. Actions with younger children are carried out by the "Children Under Our Care" program, which uses puppet theater to educate about respect and traffic rules.

Drones are used for monitoring public and private areas.
The use of drones has expanded to various areas since they became popular. One of the first uses of this type of equipment was in the military during the 1980s. Since then, much has changed, making drones a tool for capturing images in diverse environments.
However, a use more similar to the military continues to be explored and modernized year after year. When it comes to security, this equipment has demonstrated great potential for use, ranging from area monitoring to facial recognition, depending on the technology employed.

Drone instructor Diego Queiroz, from Real Games, The person in charge of the Arena states that the use of drones for security and surveillance can be an advantage given the technologies that are available.
“Drones can be very useful for monitoring areas like condominiums. They can patrol these spaces, for example. The camera is very important. The equipment can identify people who may be hiding in dark areas, such as woods. An entire troop would have difficulty doing something that a drone does easily, depending on its technology. Depending on the camera, it can even perform facial recognition,” says the instructor.
Private security can also be provided with this type of equipment, as long as it focuses on monitoring common areas so as not to infringe on the privacy of people within the coverage area.
Vivensis partners with WEG.
The electronic products and services company Vivensis Vivensis is participating in Exposec for the second consecutive time. This year, the focus is on promoting its recent partnership with WEG for photovoltaic energy generation systems, vehicle charging, and irrigation pumping systems. Its portfolio includes modules, inverters, protection devices, lithium batteries, electric vehicle chargers, and more. Vivensis is starting its operations focusing on the residential, commercial, and agribusiness segments. Another product line on display at the fair is Vivensis TV Sat, with the pre-launch of the new VX15 receiver, now compatible with the digital open TV system in major urban centers. Like the VX10, it is compatible with the regional SAT HD system, Ku-band, C-band, and the SKY B1-43W satellite.
AI used in cargo tracking helps reduce carbon emissions.
The security technology used in vehicle tracking will also be applied to reduce carbon emissions. This is the project that... Maxtrack, [Company Name], a company specializing in passenger and cargo tracking technology, is implementing a project aimed at neutralizing carbon emissions from road transport fleets under its monitoring. The company announced the project during Exposec 2023.
Maxtrack's tracking technology, using artificial intelligence, will be used to measure fleet CO² emissions and contribute to making driver behavior more efficient and sustainable. A carbon offsetting flow will be created through the planting of native trees. The project is in partnership with the Uaimií Institute., lLaboratory for experiments in the recovery of degraded areas and environmental preservation.
“From the beginning of our operation, we have been attentive to the need for environmental care in the areas where we operate. We work towards a safer world through the use of technology and, with the Zero Carbon project, also towards a more sustainable world,” explains Gustavo Travassos, founder of Maxtrack.
With the savings generated, participating transport companies will be able to sequester the polluting gases emitted during operations by planting seedlings in protected areas. The cultivation, monitoring, and transfer of the trees to their final growing locations will be carried out by the Uaimií Institute, guaranteeing the traceability of the compensated plots and the maintenance of the growing areas. The initial goal is to achieve a reduction of at least 20% of emissions each year.
Security companies can gradually replace 2G devices, says expert.
Many security devices continue to operate using 2G technology. However, with the advancement of the 5G network, many security business owners may be unsure about the right time to invest in new devices, which have a much higher cost.
The general director of Links Field, Thiago Rodrigues was one of the speakers at Exposec. With the theme "The Relevance of Telecom in Your Company's Planning," Rodrigues highlighted the need to study customer profiles to understand the right time to invest in equipment with more modern networks.
“The 2G network has served security companies well for some time now, but at some point, it will end. We don't know exactly when, but it's already starting to show flaws and slowness, which are much more noticeable to those who have been working with this equipment for a longer time. Those who buy today believe that the service meets their needs. So, it's impossible to know when the end will come, but it's heading that way. Therefore, it's necessary to understand the customer profile and make these investments gradually,” he explains.
According to Tiago, the idea is to invest in more technologically advanced equipment as needed, as is the case with clients who are also making long-term investments. "Companies can invest around 10% in new equipment, which will perform even better in the future. And leave the 2G equipment to serve a different profile, one with a higher chance of canceling the service within a year, for example," he concludes.
