The city government presents advancements in urban security based on technology, intelligent monitoring, and operational presence.
The City of São Paulo is showcasing the results of Smart Sampa, the largest video surveillance system in Latin America, at Exposec 2026. The initiative has expanded the response capacity of urban security and strengthened, in practice, the performance of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM). The event will also feature a booth presenting part of the corporation's operational structure, with vehicles, equipment, and specialized units used in daily operations throughout the city.
Exposec 2026 takes place between June 1st and 3rd at São Paulo Expo, bringing together experts and companies from the sector. Recognized as the largest security technology event in Latin America, the fair brings together hundreds of brands and professionals from Brazil and around the world, consolidating itself as a strategic space for the presentation of solutions that integrate technology, intelligence and field operations.
During the event, the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Security (SMSU) will showcase part of the GCM's operational structure to the public, with an exhibition of vehicles and equipment used daily by the teams, including electric and specialized models, as well as resources focused on environmental patrolling, actions at reservoirs, and strategic groups within the corporation.
The booth also includes operational equipment such as less-lethal weapons, firearms and shields, as well as drone demonstrations and a presentation of the Maria da Penha Guardian program, aimed at combating domestic and family violence in the city of São Paulo.
In the area dedicated to Smart Sampa, visitors will be able to observe the operation of the mini monitoring center, which replicates, on a reduced scale, the functioning of the São Paulo program. The tool already has 50,000 smart cameras positioned at strategic points in the capital, with facial recognition technology, allowing the identification and arrest of fugitives from justice and the location of missing persons.
The system also features license plate recognition, used to detect vehicles with theft or robbery records, as well as intrusion alerts aimed at monitoring public properties such as schools and health units. Since November 2024, Smart Sampa has enabled the capture of more than 3,000 fugitives from justice, the arrest of more than 5,000 criminals in the act, and the location of more than 210 missing persons.
The São Paulo Metropolitan Civil Guard is the largest armed corporation in the country, with 7,500 agents – a number greater than the total police force of ten Brazilian states. Since 2021, more than 2,000 guards have joined, with plans for further hiring that should bring the corporation to almost 10,000 agents by 2028. A public competition for 500 new positions is currently underway.

This work has the support and leadership of Mayor Ricardo Nunes, who has prioritized the modernization of the city and the strengthening of the Metropolitan Civil Guard's performance, focusing on results and the protection of the population,” stated the Municipal Secretary of Urban Security, Juliana Lopes Bussacos.
