The vehicle tracking market could benefit from applications that are immune to the effects of 'jammers'.‘
In the vehicle recovery market, wasting time is no good. Tracking cars, trucks, and cargo needs to be very precise and cannot have any failures – otherwise, the losses end up being high. Getrak and its clients throughout Brazil know this. A leader in the Brazilian market for technology and equipment for vehicle recovery, the company provides platforms, hardware, and connectivity for tracking centers throughout Brazil and much of Latin America. Recently, a tracking center using Getrak technology managed to recover its first vehicle using the newly launched GetrakFox device, with Sigfox technology. The case took place in Pernambuco and prevented a loss of approximately R$ 60,000.
“We are long-time Getrak customers, and the employees told us about this new Sigfox technology. The functionality of this device is excellent; it solves the location problem with a fantastic cost-benefit ratio. We were able to see its response time in practice, recovering the vehicle of one of our members in a short period,” explains Oberdan Silva, CEO of the Vale Car benefits club.
GetrakFox was launched in 2018 during Exposec in São Paulo. It underwent six months of testing and is now operating commercially, integrated with the tracking and telemetry platform, as well as the artificial intelligence platform called Deeptrack, both from Getrak. These platforms provided support and alerts when the vehicle was stolen in Pernambuco. The car had two trackers – one with 2G connectivity (which was deactivated) and another with Sigfox technology. It was precisely through the GetrakFox tracker that the vehicle could be located.
The GetrakFox tracker, with SigFox technology, connects via the network operated by WND Brasil. This network is installed in all state capitals and in 70% areas of cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants, in addition to covering the main Brazilian highways. SigFox technology stands out for its very low connection cost and long-lasting batteries. Furthermore, SigFox technology is virtually immune to "jammer" effects, making it a very robust option for tracking purposes.
“We are hopeful that applications in this segment will have a very positive entry into the vehicle recovery market. We realize that a platform that works in conjunction with the device is important. In the coming months, we will have even more positive surprises regarding the device,” says Frederico Menegatti, CEO of Getrak. The executive believes that the market for the Sigfox device is very promising. “Through our partners, this new technology is already in seven Brazilian states, but our goal is to place it throughout Brazil and Latin America, including Mexico. It is a large market, and we expect to reach 700,000 devices, including 2G and Sigfox equipment,” concludes Menegatti.
