The IoT (Internet of Things) is already a reality worldwide and is advancing strongly in Brazil. In Latin America alone, the sector is projected to generate over US$30 billion by 2023, with the majority coming from the Brazilian market, according to a survey by GlobalData. The technology also expands opportunities for professionals and entrepreneurs.
The crisis caused by the novel coronavirus has emerged as a catalyst for the advancement of IoT in the country, which is consolidating itself as strategic for different sectors. Technically, the Internet of Things can be described as the network of physical objects – “things” – that are incorporated with sensors, software, and other technologies with the aim of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems via the internet. These devices range from common household objects to sophisticated industrial tools. In practice, the system integrates a wide variety of equipment, which communicate with each other and exchange information.
And Brazil stands out as one of the most promising locations for this segment. The 2019 Business Intelligence Index study, conducted by Zebra Technologies, showed that in 2019 the average investment by Brazilian companies in new technologies, such as IoT and data platforms, was US$6.1 million, £4.5 million more than in 2018. The global average spending reached US$6.4 million.
