Below is a statement from the President of ABESE (Brazilian Association of Electronic Security Systems Companies) regarding the market outlook and expectations for the 19th edition of EXPOSEC | International Security Fair, which will be held from May 10th to 12th, 2016, at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in São Paulo.
1. What is the state of the electronic security market in Brazil?
Even with the impacts of the economic and political crisis the country is currently experiencing, the electronic security market continues to register growth rates. This is due to a combination of several factors. On the one hand, the commitment of its entrepreneurs to invest in finding alternatives to face the challenges of the crisis, seeking to make their companies increasingly competitive through investments in the development of new technologies, product and service quality, training, and production capacity. On the other hand, the opportunities generated by the reduction in security investments by federal, state, and municipal governments, which end up stimulating private investment, the easier access to new technologies in this area, the need for individuals and companies to continue investing in preventive security and updating existing systems, and the reduction in imports caused by the rise in the exchange rate.
2. What are the main challenges in this market?
Among the main challenges facing the electronic security market are the regulation of the activity and increasing the end consumer's awareness of its importance in relation to the safety of people, their property, and the technological and socioeconomic development of the country.
3- And what are the main trends?
The trend in this market is for its products and services to increasingly become part of consumers' daily lives – both businesses and individuals – as tools that help public agencies ensure citizen safety. And, in this way, it will continue to grow, especially given the market potential the country presents. It is estimated, for example, that only 151% of Brazilian households use electronic security systems, while in Europe this situation is inversely proportional, with 851%. This data gives an idea of the potential of the Brazilian electronic security market. Also, the integration of the electronic security segment with automation and the Internet of Things is crucial. Everything is integrated, facilitating control and increasing the user's level of security.
4- In your opinion, how does Exposec contribute to the development of the sector?
Exposec makes a significant contribution. It's an event that has established itself as a showcase for the latest in electronic security technology and a driver of new business, bringing together the most important players in the sector and a highly qualified audience. Furthermore, each year it increases the visibility of the sector, its companies, products, and services through coverage by the country's leading media outlets. The event helps to increase the representativeness of the electronic security sector in relation to its socioeconomic importance to the country.
5- What new features will visitors be able to check out, including new releases, technologies, and services?
Exposec, through its more than 800 national and international exhibitors, will, as always, showcase the latest in electronic security products and services, for both the business and home markets. Among these innovations, we can highlight Full HD cameras, different types of biometrics and intelligent software, as well as all the electronic security technology that can be applied to connectivity, whether in businesses, our homes, or our private and public means of transportation.
6- And what are the expectations for Exposec 2016?
I am certain that this edition of Exposec will yield positive results in terms of size, number of exhibitors and exhibit items, quality of services, products, market information and technological innovations, audience qualification, and the creation of an environment conducive to business opportunities. For ABESE, it will also be a great opportunity to showcase the results of the work it has been developing over its 20 years of activity, seeking professionalization, training, and regulation of the sector – actions that have been fundamental to the consolidation and strengthening of this market. It will also be a chance to encourage entrepreneurs who are not yet ABESE members to join so that, together and organized, we can further increase our representation before public bodies and private sector entities in defending the interests of our segment.
7 – Outlook for the sector.
Our sector has good prospects. It has a history of significant development and will continue to develop, despite the crisis. And this development is not limited to revenue growth. It also materializes through new technologies, professionalization, improved product and service quality, productivity, among other aspects. In this context, I would like to highlight the work being developed by the ABESE sectoral technical chambers, which, during this year's Exposec, will present to the market the process for professional certification of specialized consultants and the analysis and validation of electronic security companies. From an institutional perspective, it is worth highlighting the work developed during the 20 years of our organization's activity, which resulted in the establishment of 19 unions throughout the country and FENABESE (Interstate Federation of Electronic Security Systems Companies), ratified in 2015. It is also important to mention ABESE's work with the legislative branch, which included the regulation of electronic security activity on the voting agenda of the Chamber of Deputies and its appropriate positioning in the text of Bill 4.238/12, which establishes the Private Security Statute.
8 – Industry figures.
The electronic security systems segment registered a revenue growth of 6% in 2015 compared to 2014, reaching R$ 5.4 billion. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the national alarm systems industry achieved a revenue growth of 15% during the same period. This occurred due to currency appreciation, which reduced imports and stimulated growth in this area, which, in particular, took advantage of this opportunity to invest, occupy the space opened by the reduction in imports, and grow.
