The electronic security sector will experience a revolution with the use of Blockchain.

The system has attracted the interest of businesspeople and should be one of the main topics during Exposec 2019.

São Paulo, April 2019 The electronic security sector is set to undergo a revolution with the adoption of blockchain, which was created to manage cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin) but is increasingly gaining ground in various market segments. This is the opinion of security and privacy expert Emílio Nakamura, who believes this is one of the topics that will be in the spotlight during the [event/context missing - likely a specific event or event]. Exposec 2019 – International Security Fair, which takes place in May, in São Paulo.

The process is still in its early stages, but it's already shaping up to be a trend. "In Brazil, there aren't any electronic security companies using blockchain," he believes. "But I've seen some implementing its use abroad, and it will certainly arrive here," says the expert, who is responsible for seminars promoted by ABESE (Brazilian Association of Electronic Security Companies). Companies in Electronic Security Systems), organizer of Exposec 2019, a theme disseminated throughout the country, alerting members to the new reality.

According to Nakamura, the data handled by electronic security companies, whether for identification, authentication, access control, or even closed-circuit television images, is much more protected on the blockchain. This is quite different from the current situation, where information is stored on a central server and controlled by one person.

In general terms, it can be said that it is a distributed database system based on an algorithm, maintained and managed in a shared and decentralized manner through a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, resembling linked blocks, each with a digital fingerprint. All participants are responsible for storing and maintaining the database. The technology was built with four main characteristics in mind: security of operations, decentralization of storage/computing, data integrity, and immutability of transactions.

The main focus of blockchain is the ability to manage data securely. "The data you use within the blockchain is immutable; you can't alter it, you can't tamper with its integrity," says Nakamura, noting that the system doesn't focus on data confidentiality. "The information is available, but nobody can change it.".

According to the expert, another advantage of blockchain is that it "adds a layer of security regarding the integrity and availability of data. And the fact that it is distributed and decentralized also complies with the data protection law (LPD). "The system itself is not sufficient, but if it is combined with cryptography, it certainly helps companies comply with the LPD," he assures.
