Period of social isolation expands opportunities for startups in the electronic security sector.

Systems that were little used until now have become more important and should maintain this new status after the end of the pandemic.

São Paulo, May 2020 – With over 26,000 companies in the country, the Electronic Security market grows by an average of 8% per year, with 10% registered in 2019, according to a survey by Abese (Brazilian Association of Electronic Security Systems Companies). However, the sector has a repressed demand, both in public and private security, for solutions that use artificial intelligence, sensors, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to help prevent or resolve incidents without the use of lethal weapons – which remain restricted to police authorities or authorized security companies.

With the Covid-19 crisis, the electronic security sector gained even more visibility and demand grew. It is expected to maintain a prominent position even after the pandemic ends. This is the opinion of Edson Pacheco., coordinator of the Startups Committee of Abese, together with Cipa Fiera Milano, is organizing the 23rd Exposec – International Security Fair.

For Pacheco, every moment of crisis is a catalyst for new solutions. “Abese has been betting on startups as drivers of successful experiments in the electronic security segment. So much so that three years ago we created the Startup Island at Exposec and since then we have been presenting practical and low-cost solutions for the segment to the fair's audience.”.

Many of these solutions are already being used during the period of social isolation. Surveillance using drones, video conferencing, which was previously underutilized; there is also the collect spot, which is a delivery box installed in commercial establishments in hard-to-reach areas, where the post office can leave mail or packages for the person to pick up later. These are some examples of resources that should remain in use going forward.

Pacheco himself is the CEO of Tranpo, a company that emerged from the first Startup Island at Exposec three years ago. “We offer on-demand installation and maintenance services for security equipment,” he explains. “In other words, the company doesn't have the cost of maintaining professionals to install and maintain its equipment and only pays for the service it contracts with us.”.

Drones for business surveillance

With employees working from home, companies are increasingly using drones to monitor their manufacturing facilities. According to Paulo Ramalho, from... Aero Guard, The current crisis has accelerated the adoption of this equipment. "Since businesses have had to reduce their workforce, they are turning to drones as an alternative.".

According to Ramalho, the company offers a complete monitoring service. “From the drone itself to video monitoring, everything can be done by us. We can also contract just the monitoring service if the company already owns the drone,” he explains. “This way, they can operate, manage, and receive real-time data from a fleet of drones from a single remote control center.”.

Ramalho points out that automatic patrols can also be programmed for monitoring large areas. "I believe it's unlikely we'll revert to the previous status quo after these entrepreneurs started using our system.".

Beatriz Candido di Paolo, from the Marketing team of mywork, The company says that "it is working hard to help existing and new clients cope with the crisis, in an attempt to lessen the impact on their businesses in some way." "We are extending the trial period of the mywork online time tracking system for new clients seeking the solution, and we are working very closely with existing clients to understand the anxieties and needs of each one at this time.".

Since the company offers solutions for the human resources departments of small and medium-sized businesses to resolve their problems with time tracking, vacation management, document management, absence and lateness control, communication with accountants, and many other day-to-day difficulties, social isolation has become a new challenge. “Now, even with the crisis, mywork already has many clients who, by adopting a work-from-home policy for their employees, sought a practical and secure service to make this transition from office work to remote work. We believe that a humanized and empathetic approach and service is essential at this time, so that everyone can face the crisis together,” says Beatriz.

The specialist also points out that the company is already developing strategies for the end of social isolation. “When the situation improves and businesses return to normal, we feel that, even with the economic recovery, closer attention will still be needed, both for clients and for work models as a whole,” she says. “Mywork continues to stand firm in providing high-quality support during the crisis, and our intention is to extend this care to the times to come, mainly because we believe that the demand for agile and personalized service will be even greater in the market after the pandemic we are currently experiencing.”.
