The sector has been investing in artificial intelligence and innovation.
Cases of armored car and cargo robberies across Brazil have been in the news in recent months. These range from the cinematic robbery at Guarulhos airport, where 720 kilograms of gold were stolen, to the mega-heist at Viracopos airport in Campinas, and the recent invasion of the Galeão cargo terminal in Rio.
Although these crimes do not expose the vulnerability of security systems, since they are isolated cases, companies in the sector have been investing in innovative solutions to ensure that their vehicles and mechanisms become even safer.
“Companies are seeking to understand and incorporate into their product and solution development models the technology ecosystem that encompasses artificial intelligence environments, IoT development processes, and a better understanding of the smart city concept, since the security pillar is one of the most requested within this concept,” explained Cláudio Procida, consultant at the Brazilian Association of Electronic Security Systems Companies (Abese), to ANSA. According to the Abese representative, even though they already use security technology, companies need to “significantly improve their strategies, seeking greater specialization of their professionals and also a change in security planning concepts.”.
Currently, many companies are investing in armored trucks, electronic tags on cargo, origin identification seals, and even drones to prevent the increase in thefts. In addition, changes in the employee selection process and investment in counterintelligence, since most robberies involving cash bags originate from leaks of internal information, are also among the measures being taken.
“"Today we have several security devices that act in prevention, such as access control with artificial intelligence, remote gatehouses, image analysis, and also devices that act in reaction to events, such as smoke generators that disperse criminals within an enclosed environment," added Procida.
These new mechanisms, combined with artificial intelligence, have been important allies in preventing cargo theft, according to public security expert Fábio Ramazzini Bechara, from Mackenzie Presbyterian University.
Some of the equipment and innovations can be seen next year, between April 14th and 16th, at the 23rd edition of Exposec, the largest electronic security fair in Latin America, in São Paulo. Organized by Cipa Fiera Milano, the event brings together the latest technologies, products and services in the field. “Technology can promote solutions not only to enhance your surveillance and monitoring system, but also, with the use of data science, enable [the company] to develop predictive capabilities to identify vulnerabilities in advance and intervene to delay and hinder illegal activity,” Bechara concluded to ANSA.
